Iowa State Capitol

The Iowa State Capitol, built between 1871 and 1886, is a beautiful example of 19th architecture with a Renaissance style. The building's signature feature is the central golden dome, built with 23 carat gold. It remains the only five-domed capitol building in America. Visitors touring the capitol enjoy the panoramic view of the Des Moines skyline from its position in the city.

It is truly one of Iowa's key landmark's. The Office of the Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, Offices of the Attorney General, Secretary of State and Treasurer all have offices in the capitol. Schedule plenty of time while touring the grounds, to see the monuments located outside of the building. Stay close to the capitol and other city attractions as a guest of Best Western hotels.
