Iowa’s Rock Creek
Fishing, Swimming & Boating on Rock Creek Lake
Rock Creek State Park
Set in central Iowa, Rock Creek State Park is a four-season destination on 1,700 acres. Whether your bag is lake fishing or snowmobiling, this Iowa state park is sure to impress.
Try your hand at canoeing, kayaking or fishing on Rock Creek Lake – a 602-acre lake stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, saugeye and bullhead. Fish around from the boat, or cast out from your spot along 15 miles of the lake’s shoreline.
Speaking of the shoreline, Rock Creek Beach is a spot where visitors are encouraged to sunbathe along the lakeshore, or enjoy swimming and catching up on some reading. Be sure to save your energy for hiking and horseback riding along Rock Creek State Park’s network of multiuse trails – one of which is a bike trail leading to the nearby town of Grinnell – and unpack that picnic basket after your trek.
Come winter, ice-fishing enthusiasts may look forward to catching crappie and king-sized bluegill. Winter guests are also encouraged to zip down one of the many snowmobile trails at Rock Creek State Park, or look forward to some cross-country skiing during a winter trip to Iowa.
